Relocating the Archive

2019 was an exciting one for me, not only because of the successful "Metamorphosis 1" exhibition, which pleased Paphian audiences but also because of the difficult yet intriguing process of moving the archive to a new location. This project felt like an archeological dig, with the cautious removal of Spyros Haritous's long-forgotten archive from the basement and his son Michalakis' lifetime collection.

Michalakis, a professional photographer, specialized as a photo-reporter, documenting moments of historical importance in Paphos, Cyprus, throughout the twentieth century. His perfectly kept 35mm Kodak films are a compelling historical witness.

The house, which had been empty for decades, became a place of discovery and recollection. I was lucky to embark on this extraordinary trip with my friends, director Charalambos Charalambous, artist Yiannis Sakellis, and Mike Sophokleous, who provided crucial assistance.

In an unexpected twist, a robber stole into the abandoned residence in 2019. While nothing of value was stolen, the exhaustive search created quite a mess, adding another layer of story to this already rich tapestry of history.
